Description

My mom has been making these chocolate chip cookies for decades, and she’s really perfected the recipe. They’re moist and chewy on the inside, crunchy around the edges, just perfect!

Ingredients

  • 2-¼ cups Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • ½ cups Butter, Room Temperature
  • ½ cups Vegetable Shortening
  • ¾ cups Granulated Sugar
  • ¾ cups Light Brown Sugar, Packed
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 2 whole Large Eggs, Room Temperature
  • 2 cups Chocolate Chips

Preparation

Preheat oven to 375° F.

Combine flour, baking soda and salt in a small bowl. Beat butter, shortening, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in a large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets, or sheets lined with parchment paper.

Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. At the halfway point (about 5 minutes), switch sheets from top to bottom rack (and visa versa) and then rotate each sheet, so that the area of the sheet that was originally at the front of the oven is now at the back. Basically you’re just making sure that the cookies get to experience the top, bottom, front and back of the oven during cooking time, which will ensure that all cookies are the same color and level of done-ness. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.

I made my cookies using a small disher and the recipe yielded 56 cookies. WOW. I baked 3 dozen immediately and froze 20 individual cookies for baking later. I don’t think that “later” will be too far away. They taste wonderful! Thank you for sharing your recipe.

I’ve never been able to master the “perfect chocolate chi cookie”, they were always either too crunchy, too flat, too sweet, too soft, or something and I’ve tried hundreds of recipes. But you, YOU my friend changed that. These were the “PERFECT” cookie. I will never use another chocolate chip cookie recipe. When I pulled these out of the oven they were met with fanfare, praise, and cheers by the rest of my family. I cried tears of joy because they looked so pretty. Oh sorry, chocolate chip cookies make me emotional.
Thank you thank you THANK YOU.

That is exactly the Nestle Tollhouse recipe that I use apart from the shortening/butter combo (it uses 1 c butter instead of half and half). I might have to try the shortening next time just to see how they differ. Thanks for the tip.
