Description

This is my grandmother’s recipie and a sure sign that Thanksgiving is on its way. Soft, chewy and so good with cider or a cup of coffee. Make them soon!

Ingredients

  • ¾ cups Butter
  • 1 cup Sugar, Plus Extra To Roll Cookies In
  • ¼ cups Dark Molasses
  • 1 whole Egg
  • 2 cups Flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Soda
  • ½ teaspoons Cloves
  • ½ teaspoons Ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoons Salt

Preparation

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Beat butter, sugar, and molasses together until smooth.

Add egg and mix well.

Sift dry ingredients together and to the wet mixture.

Chill dough for atleast 1 hour in the fridge. It’s much easier to handle the dough the harder it is.

Shape into 1-inch balls and roll in sugar.

Place on a greased baking sheet 2 inches apart and bake for 8-10 minutes.

My baking powder failed so I had flat pancake cookies, but they still taste great! I’ll use this one again or the one I have in my recipe box in the future.

This is exactly the recipe I use. These were always my son’s favorite when he was little. I love that they are a soft cookie!
