Description

Yummy old fashioned molasses cookies perfect for Christmas time. Leave some for Santa! My husband loves ‘em.

Ingredients

  • ¾ cups Shortening
  • 1 cup Dark Brown Sugar
  • 1 whole Egg
  • ¼ cups Molasses
  • 2-¼ cups All-purpose Flour
  • 1-½ teaspoon Baking Soda
  • ½ teaspoons Kosher Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Ginger
  • ½ teaspoons Ground Cloves
  • ¾ teaspoons Ground Vietnamese (high Oil) Cinnamon
  • Granulated Sugar, For Dipping Cookies

Preparation

Use a wooden spoon or a mixer and cream the shortening with brown sugar until well mixed and fluffy. Add egg and beat thoroughly. Add molasses and mix until incorporated. Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, and spices. Combine with the creamed mixture. Chill the dough for 30 minutes to several hours.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Roll into walnut-sized balls and dip the tops into granulated sugar. Place 2 inches apart on parchment-lined cookie sheets. Use your fingers to sprinkle 2 or 3 drops of water on each cookie. Bake for 10 minutes, or until the edges are just browned and the tops are cracked.
