A retro cookie with a soft texture and brown butter frosting.
For the cookies:
With a mixer, cream together: shortening, brown sugar, white sugar and eggs.
Add and mix together 8 ounces (1 cup) evaporated milk (save other 4 ounces for frosting) and the rest of the cookie ingredients.
Chill dough (for approximately one hour). When dough is chilled, drop teaspoon sized portions onto a cookie sheet. Bake in a 375-degree (F) oven for about 12 minutes. Remove cookies to a baking rack or paper bags and allow them to cool.
For the frosting:
In a medium-sized saucepan, brown 2 tablespoons of butter (this lends the frosting its special flavor). Add remaining 4 ounces (1/4 cup) of evaporated milk as well as 2 cups of powdered sugar. Cook, stirring constantly, over medium heat, until the lumps of powdered sugar disappear. Drizzle frosting on top of the cooled cookies.
Enjoy!
