This chocolate spice meatball cookie is chock full of nuts, raisins and chocolate chips, spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves, and can be topped with a sweet glaze. It was introduced to me by my mother-in-law and now it’s my favorite Christmas cookie.
Cream shortening and sugar in a large bowl, then add eggs and vanilla.
Stir together dry ingredients in a separate bowl: flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and baking powder, salt and spices.
Mix dry ingredients into the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk until it’s a nice thick cookie batter consistency. Stir in the chocolate chips, walnuts and raisins. Ultimately, I end up sticking my hands in the dough to finish the mixing.
Roll into balls and then flatten them on cookie sheets. Bake in a 350F oven for 10 minutes. Cool completely. Makes 4 dozen cookies.
If you wish to glaze these, you can use a simple powdered sugar and milk glaze.
