Description

My granny made these all the time! They are yummy and not too sweet. Perfect with a latte!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Shortening (Crisco Butter Flavored)
  • 2 cups Brown Sugar
  • 2 whole Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 3 cups Flour
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1 Tablespoon Cream Of Tartar
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda, Dissolved In 1 Tablespoon Water
  • 1 cup Chopped Nuts

Preparation

Cream shortening. Add sugar, beaten eggs and vanilla. Sift flour, salt, and cream of tartar; add to the mixture. Add soda with water and fold in the nuts. Mix together well.

Separate the dough in half. Take the first half and roll into a log on waxed paper. Wrap up the log in the waxed paper and store in the “icebox” or refrigerator. Repeat the same with the remaining dough. Chill well.

Slice and bake for about 10 minutes at 350 degrees. Transfer to a wire rack and cool.
