This recipe comes from my Great-Grandmother Una. She immigrated from England as a teen and from her I have inherited this recipe. The cookies are densely chocolaty and perfectly sweet. Any time I have a chocolate craving, these are my go-to cookies, especially since the dough is great too (shhh!).
Mix oil, chocolate and sugar. Blend in eggs one at a time until well mixed. Add vanilla. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt.
Chill several hours. I know, waiting is hard. But it’s worth it, I promise. While you’re waiting, test the dough every so often to see if it’s cold yet… and to sneak a taste, too.
Once dough is chilled, heat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Grab a Ziploc bag or Tupperware container and put 1 cup confectioner’s sugar in it. Then drop large spoonfuls (about a tablespoon’s worth) of dough into the sugar. Close the bag/container and roll the dough around, forming balls. Place them about 2 inches apart on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet.
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
For even more chocolaty decedent cookies, take two crinkles and put your favorite chocolate frosting in the middle. It’s wonderful this way too.

These were really easy to make as long as I kept the dough chilled in between batches. I decided to hand roll each cookie since they were for a cookie exchange, and keeping the dough chilled made it easier to form the dough balls.
Thanks for sharing, they will be a staple in our house from now on!
