My Grandma Mac handed down this recipe to me. My Great Grandma McDonald and Great Aunt Hazel made these each Christmas in Lynch, Nebraska. They used a wood-burning stove so I had to adjust to electric oven temps.
Grandma said you decide on how many or what kind of nuts you want. I always make these with PECANS as that is my favorite nut to bake with (outside of my sister, that is). And I add between 1-2 cups.
Mix all ingredients well (it’s about 2 cups of flour, but that changes if I do 1/2 crisco and 1/2 butter or all butter or all butter flavored crisco).
Make dough into a long roll or 2 smaller ones. Wrap in wax paper or plastic wrap and put in the refrigerator.
The dough must chill overnight.
Then you slice and bake in a 350F oven.
These burn quite easily! Watch them! I start watching them after around 8 minutes.
