Description

My best friend Lu from Chester, VT shared this recipe with me about five or six years ago. It’s been a favorite ever since. Every time I make these cookies I think of her and our good times at BRP!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose Flour
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Cloves
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 3 teaspoons Baking Soda
  • ¾ cups Shortening
  • 1 cup Sugar, Plus More For Rolling Cookies
  • 1 whole Egg, Slightly Beaten
  • ¼ cups Grandma's Molasses

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix the flour, salt, cloves, ginger, cinnamon, and baking soda together in a medium bowl. In a large bowl cream shortening, gradually adding the sugar. Mix in egg and molasses. Stir in the flour mixture gradually. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and roll in sugar. Place on a baking sheet, bake for 8-10 minutes. Remove from the baking sheet and cool on a wire rack.

Make sure to taste one while it’s still warm! They are so yummy!
