Description

These are the best sugar cookies ever! The recipe is from a dear college friend of mine, and every time we have a girls’ reunion, she brings a plate. Needless to say, they don’t last long!

Ingredients

  • ¾ cups Butter, Softened, Divided
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 whole Egg
  • 1-½ teaspoon Vanilla, Divided
  • 1-¾ cup Flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • 1 pound Powdered Sugar
  • ⅛ teaspoons Salt
  • 4 teaspoons Milk

Preparation

Cookies:

1. Cream 1/2 cup of butter and granulated sugar. Add egg and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla.
2. Mix the flour, baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Add to the sugar mixture.
3. Cover and chill for 30 to 60 minutes.
4. On a floured surface, roll out dough to 1/4 to 1/2 inch thickness, and cut into desired shapes.
5. Bake at 400 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Don’t over-bake!
6. Remove cookies and cool on a wire rack.

Frosting:

In a mixer, mix together until creamy the following ingredients in the order given: remaining 1/4 soft butter, powdered sugar, 1/8 teaspoon salt, remaining 1 teaspoon vanilla, 4 teaspoons milk (or more if mixture is dry), and food coloring as desired.

When cookies are completely cooled, frost and decorate as you like!
