This is the recipe my Grandma taught me as a young child when we would bake our holiday cookies. With only 3 ingredients, it’s so simple to make and remember by heart that it is an instant favorite.
In a large bowl, cream the butter until smooth. Add the sugar, beating together until combined and fluffy. Stir in the flour gently until just until incorporated. Flatten the dough into a disk shape, wrap tightly in plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
On a lightly floured surface roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thick. Cut out shapes using cookie cutters of your choice until all the dough is used. Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for aproximately 10 minutes or until lightly browned around the edges.
Cool on rack and store in an airtight container.
Note: These cookies can be made with either powdered sugar or brown sugar instead of regular granulated sugar. Each variation gives it a subtly different flavour, but they will come out just as nicely.
