An oldie, but a goodie! Moist chocolate cake that uses no eggs and is all made in the same pan it’s baked in!
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Sift together flour, sugar, salt, soda and cocoa into an ungreased 9 x 13 pan.
Make three holes (2 small and 1 large) in the flour mixture.
Pour 1 teaspoon vanilla into one of the small holes. Pour 2 Tablespoons of vinegar into the other small one. Pour 3/4 cup oil into the large one.
Then, pour 2 cups water over the entire mixture and gently blend well with a fork until flour is all blended. Just remember to be gentle and get into the corners.
Sprinkle with desired amount of chocolate chips.
Bake at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean (avoid chocolate chips!)

My mom made this all the time. I love that it is made all in one pan!

My grandfather put this recipe in our family cookbook with a story from the great depression when he was eight and decided to make this cake. I guess his dad had made him angry that day, because when my great-grandfather walked in the room and asked my papa what he was doing my papa responded, “I’m making crazy cake and you can’t have any!”
