Description

Simply put, you will think you died and went to heaven when you eat this ridiculously decadent cake. Best part? It’s easy to make!

Ingredients

  • Butter, To Grease Cake Pans
  • Cocoa Powder Or Sugar, To Dust Cake Pans
  • 1 box (18 To 20 Oz. Box) Chocolate Cake Mix
  • 1 box Instant Chocolate Pudding (5.9 Oz)
  • 1 cup Sour Cream
  • 4 whole Eggs, Beaten
  • 1 cup Vegetable Oil
  • ½ cups Warm Water
  • 2 cups Heavy Cream
  • ¼ cups Light Corn Syrup
  • 8 ounces, weight Semisweet Chocolate, Chopped Or Chips

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Prepare two 9-inch cake pans with butter and cocoa powder (or flour, if you have no cocoa).

Combine cake mix, pudding, sour cream, eggs, oil and warm water in a large bowl. Stir until combined, then beat for 2 minutes on medium speed.

The batter is THICK! Divide between your two pans and spread/shake pans to distribute batter evenly. Bake for 33 minutes in your preheated oven and allow to cool thoroughly.

While you’re baking your cake, start your frosting! Combine cream and corn syrup in a medium saucepan and heat until barely simmering. Turn heat to low and add the chocolate, whisking until totally melted and smooth. Transfer chocolate mixture to a large bowl and place in the fridge or freezer until cold.

When the cake is totally cooled and chocolate is very cold, whip the chocolate cream until stiff. Frost cake and ENJOY!

This is my go to birthday cake recipe now. I’ve used it about 6 times so far. Getting ready right now to make one for my Mom’s bday. Going to top it with berries and then drizzle some of topping for ice cream the stuff that gets hard like a shell (fudge flavor) all over it. I do that after it sits in the fridge for a while and get all cold. That way the choc stuff hardens right up. Then back in the fridge until we’re ready to serve. It looks soooo good!
Thank you for this wonderful recipe!

I tried this last week and for some reason my icing did NOT turn out well. It almost looked like it never got fluffy and immediately seperated. Any ideas??

Thanks!

Made this yesterday for my Mom’s Birthday and it was delicious! We always order her a cake from a local bakery that specializes in chocolate. This year they were closed, so I thought I’ll make her one. Not only was this cake easy but tasted very similar to the bakeries cake. So good!

I am waiting for the cake to bake, and am so excited. My sister is coming to visit, and although her birthday was last week we are making her a special surprise! She is a chocoholic that can find a GOOD chocolate anywhere, and is a lover of ganache (who isn’t). The batter was glossy and thick and promising, although I had to make it bundt style as I have no rounds…I might have to split it to make room for more ganache ;). Off to warm up some cream! Will definatley rate this one and cannot help but anticipate good things!

I am a beginner cook who has had some scary disasters in the kitchen, and even I couldn’t mess this up! I have made it a handful of times, and it always turned out GREAT. Delicious and moist! I used a canned frosting, though, because I don’t trust myself with homemade frosting yet. :)

I made this for Easter dinner dessert, and it got rave reviews!. The cream frosting was light and not cloyingly sweet. I was even asked for the recipe.

This cake was so easy and yummy! I did end up whipping the frosting too long…which means that it grew and grew and I ended up with so much! Not that I’m complaining…but it was funny to see two inches of icing on two inches of cake lol.

THANKS FOR SHARING!

This. Is. Delicious! My family couldn’t wait for the icing to cool in the fridge, so we used it as a “sauce” and it was delicious. I thought about adding chocolate chips to the cake next time, but my sister said, “don’t mess with perfection.” :)
