These chocolate pretzel cookies would be perfect served with tea or coffee! (Like biscotti, but cuter.)
Melt chocolate in the microwave at 30-second intervals, stirring each time. Set aside to cool. In a medium bowl, cream butter and shortening with brown sugar. Mix in cinnamon, eggs, and melted chocolate. Sift together the flour and salt and stir into the batter to make a smooth dough. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 350ºF. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Using walnut-sized balls of dough, roll each ball into a thin strand, about 10 inches long. Form into a pretzel shape, pressing together to seal. Place on the prepared cookie sheet, brush with egg white and sprinkle with coarse sugar. Bake 12 to 15 minutes. Transfer to wire racks and let cool.

oh no, I’m sorry about the negative review! I’ve only made them once, but everyone seemed to really like them. The dough shouldn’t be cracking or hard to roll at all. I was actually surprised at how easy it was to work with. I can see why the dough wouldn’t taste great on its own. I think the addition of the coarse sugar on top is important – adds extra sugar and crunch. These are not overly sweet cookies. They’re perfect with a cup of coffee, kind of like biscotti. If you try them, I hope you like them!

Oh no! I was thinking these were a great idea….and then I read the one review. Now I’m skeptical. Has anyone else tried these?
