Description

Flaky French Palmiers with orange-infused sugar and chocolate. So easy to make!

Ingredients

  • 1 whole Pre-made Puff Pastry Dough
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 whole Large Orange, Zested
  • 6 ounces, weight Bittersweet Chocolate - Shaved

Preparation

Pour the sugar onto your workspace and put the orange zest on top. Work the zest into the sugar with the back of a spoon until fragrant. Set half the sugar aside and spread the other half out on your workspace.

Unfold your pastry dough (found in the freezer section of the grocery store) and place it on top of the sugar. Repair any ripped seams by pushing the dough back together.

Sprinkle the other half of the sugar on top of the dough and roll out until about 12″ x 10″. Sprinkle chocolate shavings over the entire surface.

Tightly roll each side of the dough into the middle, wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Unwrap chilled dough and cut into 1/2″ slices.

Place slices on a parchment-lined or lightly greased cookie sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until pastry is golden. It may take up to 20 minutes. Watch closely after 10 minutes, as these cookies tend to burn quickly!

Let cool on baking sheets or wire racks. Eat within 2 or 3 days.

I have to say, these cookies are not the easiet to make and by that I mean, even after you refrigerate them, the chocolate tends to fall out when cutting into slices. That being said, the flavor is definitely there. Make sure to use shaved chocolate and not finely chopped as it may melt better. I am going to try nutella instead if shaved choc next time and see how that goes. :o)
