Description

Chocolate chip cookies become crazy good with real maple syrup and mmm bacon!

Ingredients

  • 8 slices Thick Cut Bacon
  • ½ cups Butter, Softened
  • 2 whole Eggs
  • 1 Tablespoon Vanilla
  • ½ cups White Sugar
  • ½ cups Brown Sugar
  • ½ cups Maple Syrup (yes, The REAL Stuff.)
  • 2-½ cups All-purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • ½ teaspoons Cream Of Tartar (See Note)
  • 1-½ cup Chocolate Chips

Preparation

Cook up bacon slowly in a pan till crisp. Remove bacon to a paper towel to drain and strain the rendered bacon fat from the pan. Measure out 1/4 cup of that bacon fat and place in the fridge to cool. Scared yet?

After the bacon fat has cooled, add to the butter and whip till combined. I told you to sit, didn’t I? You could easily just use 3/4 cup of butter or even a whole cup, which is what I usually use for my regular ole’ chocolate chip cookies. But that bacon fat was just STARING AT ME. Taunting me. So I thought why not.

When thoroughly combined with the butter, add the eggs, vanilla, sugars and maple syrup. Whip into submission.

Combine the flour, baking soda and cream of tartar and add to the butter and sugar mixture till just combined.

You will notice the lack of salt here. I felt that the bacon fat and the bacon itself added quite enough where no extra would be needed.

Fold in chocolate chips. Then the bacon. Mmmm bacon.

Note: the cream of tartar gives the cookie surface more definition. Without it, you get a very smooth cookie. If that is the look you like, you can omit this as it is strictly for cosmetic purposes.

Chill the dough. Un-chilled dough will spread out so thin when baked that you can see through the cookies.

Once chilled, place balls of dough on a pan and throw it in a preheated 350° oven for 10-12 minutes (till golden, my friends) and then remove to a rack to cool.

Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

Very interesting. Not my style though. My dad loved them and didn’t even notice the bacon, but I didn’t find too many other people who liked them.

I had to try this for the novelty of it, not expecting to really like this, but they really took me by surprise! Adding bacon grease to cookie dough was about the weirdest thing I’ve ever done in my kitchen and it was the first time I’ve ever been afraid, er… apprehensive, about tasting my own food.

They’re good! Not super sweet, but very reminiscent of breakfast. I think if you like McD’s McGriddles you will like these.

You have to make these… just to say you did.

I love this. My husband and all of his IT friends love these. Several people I know couldn’t wrap their heads around a chocolate chip cookie with bacon; however, this cookie has the perfect combination of sweet and salty. I added a maple glaze to the top of each cookie, used real bacon bits instead of frying up bacon (and topped the glaze with a sprinkling of more bacon bits) and used both white chocolate and semisweet chocolate chips. These cookies are delicious!
