Description

Nom nom nom! My husband says dates look like bugs, but don’t listen to him. Not only are they good for you, but they make ordinary desserts into luscious tidbits of deliciousness.

Well, did that convince you?

Try these, you won’t be sorry!

Ingredients

  • 1 box (18.25 Oz. Box) Yellow Cake Mix
  • ⅔ cups Brown Sugar, Packed
  • 1 whole Egg (large)
  • ¾ cups Butter, Melted
  • 1 cup Dates, Chopped
  • 1 cup Walnuts, Chopped

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350F and spray Pam into a 9 x 13 pan.

Mix together the cake mix and brown sugar until there are no more lumps. Then add the melted butter, egg, then dates and walnuts.

The dough will be thick. Spread it into the pan as level as you can and bake off for 35 to 45 minutes. I actually halved the recipe and an 8 x 8 pan bakes for exactly 35 minutes.

They are amazing when warm, but stay nice and chewy even after they’ve cooled.

Keep them in an airtight container and they will stay nice and fresh for you for several days.

These look so yummy and chewy, -I’m all about the texture. I noticed that it doesn’t call for any eggs. I find that interesting, and it gives me another reason to try this recipe. I love to experiment. : )

This looks good! I have to bring a dessert to a picnic and this could be just the ticket! I love dates! Thanks!

These are tasty enough to definitely be worth making, but I’m not sure they’re standout enough to make a second time. They mostly taste like boxed cake mix (funnily enough…) and are VERY sweet.

Texturally, they were very crumbly while still warm and quite stiff when cooled – they never got “chewy.” They’re more like thick cookies. And with the exception of having fewer walnuts, I followed the recipe exactly so I’m not sure what happened there.

Overall, yummy but not amazing. Could use a little less sugar.

I FINALLY made these this morning, and they are wonderful! The flavor and texture are both sublime. The top kind of puffed up and separated from the bottom a little bit, but they’re so good that I don’t care! Thank you for the great recipe!
