Description

Applesauce cookies straight from my grandma’s recipe book. If you’re looking for something non-chocolate for a change, these have the perfect mix of cinnamon, nuts, raisins. What I especially like about them is they are soft with a little crunch on the outside, almost like a muffin top.

Ingredients

  • ½ cups Butter Or Shortening
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Applesauce
  • 2 cups All Purpose Baking Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoons Ground Cloves (I Didn't Use Cloves Since I Didn't Have Any)
  • ½ cups Raisins
  • ½ cups Nuts (I Went With Pecans And Walnuts)

Preparation

1. Preheat oven to 375F.
2. Cream shortening/butter and sugar, then add applesauce, blending in.
3. Sift flour with baking soda, salt and cinnamon (and cloves, if desired).
4. Add sifted ingredients to applesauce mixture and stir until smooth.
5. Add raisins and nuts and stir until combined.
6. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheet, spacing the cookies 2 to 3 inches apart.
7. Bake about 12 minutes or until lightly browned.

Thanks for these! My husband does not like to indulge in chocolate too much, so this would be perfect for him!

Just pulled the first batch out of the oven… they are good!
Nice change of pace as far as cookies go… they are soft and airy. I added 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla and a couple sprinkles of nutmeg and a handful of oats. I will make these again!
