Description

This chunky warm fruit sauce tastes like fresh apple pie! Serve for breakfast with a dollop of yogurt, for dessert with a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream, or alongside a savory piece of roast pork. It cooks effortlessly overnight in a low oven, and in the morning your house will be filled with the aroma of apples ‘n cinnamon!

Ingredients

  • 12 whole Apples, Peeled, Sliced And Chunked (I Like A Mix Of Braeburn, Granny Smith, And Cortland)
  • 1 cup Water
  • ¾ cups Brown Sugar
  • ¼ cups Maple Syrup
  • 1-½ Tablespoon Cinnamon
  • 1 Tablespoon Vanilla Extract (Good Quality Pure Extract)
  • ½ cups Raisins (optional)
  • 1 quart Canned Pears Halves, Drained And Chopped

Preparation

Place chopped apples into a large crock or heavy Dutch oven. Add the remaining ingredients except the pears. Cover the pan with foil and place on a baking sheet.

Bake in a 200ºF oven all night. (Alternatively, I have baked this for about 3 hours at 350ºF. However, if you go this route, you must stir the pot about every 30 minutes.)

In the morning, use a potato masher to lightly mash the mixture, stirring well. Add the chopped pears. Stir well.

Serve in bowls with a dollop with freshly whipped cream.
