Description

This delicious cucumber and yogurt sauce is the perfect condiment for lamb and beef gyros.

Ingredients

  • 1-¼ cup Plain Greek Yogurt
  • 1 whole English Hothouse Cucumber
  • 2 Tablespoons Fresh Lemon Juice
  • ½ teaspoons Dill
  • 1 pinch Kosher Salt
  • 1 pinch Ground Black Pepper
  • 1 pinch Sugar
  • 2 cloves Garlic, Crushed

Preparation

Peel the cucumber and cut in half lengthwise. Using a spoon, remove the seeds. Grate the remaining cucumber flesh.

Place the grated cucumber in a tea towel or on two layers of paper towel. Gently squeeze out the cucumber juice and discard.

Mix the drained grated cucumber with the yogurt. Add remaining ingredients and stir to combine.

Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.

Taste for seasonings adjustments. You may need an extra pinch of salt or sugar. Stir. Serve with my Lamb and Beef Gyro recipe (also available on Tasty Kitchen).

GREAT Tzatziki sauce recipe.

When I’m in a rush I use “soup and dipity’s” creamy cucumber dip mix. has all the same ingredients, just add two cups sour cream. I prefer 1 cup sour cream and one cup plain greek yogurt. YUMMY Available at soupndipity.com .

Thanks for this recipe. I normally buy it from Trader Joe’s but it’s a planned trip to get because I don’t live close to one. This was so simple to make and tasty. I may never have to make a trip to Trader Joe’s for this sauce again.

Fantastic sauce! I’ve tried a couple of other sauces and this one is my favorite! I used a slicing cucumber because it was a dollar cheaper and it didn’t make a difference. It tasted much better the next day, but a little bland the day I made it.

One of the best Tzatziki sauces I have ever had, when i have the time to make it. When short on time I’ll use the Soup and Dipity’s creamy cucumber dip Mix. Great when time is of the essence.

This was very good! I tried this because I was looking for a lower calorie version instead of the usual sour cream base. The Greek yogurt was a bit tarter than I’m used to, so I had to play around with the herbs to suit my tastes. Thanks for sharing!
