Come into my kitchen and pull up a chair. The coffee is brewing and smelling divine. Kentucky Pie is coming out of the oven, so be prepared to sink your teeth into utter deliciousness! Hot sausage, fresh orange juice, tart apples and cheddar cheese play a starring role in this delectable breakfast (or any time) pie.
Fry sausage over medium heat until browned; drain well and set aside.
Put your pie crusts into pie pans and have them ready to go.
In a saucepan mix all of the remaining ingredients (everything except the apples, pie crusts and cheese). Cook over medium heat until thick, stirring occasionally. Remove sauce from heat. Add apples and stir until well covered. Pour the mixture into the two pie shells, sprinkle with sausage and top with cheese.
Bake at 450 degrees F for 15 minutes then lower the heat to 325 degrees F and cook for 30 minutes more.
1 pie serves 8 people. Cooks Note: If you don’t need both pies, freeze one before baking.

That is great. I cook for the family that owns Harris-Teeter Supermarkets and I started with them in 1982 and it was one of their recipes that we all so loved. The beauty of it is that it makes 2 pies and if you don’t need both you can freeze the other. We always had it at breakfast and all of the guests loved it. So does my family and it makes a great gift.

I had an “auntie” from Arkansas who always said “Apple pie without cheese is like a kiss without a squeeze.” This recipe reminded me of her and made me smile.
