Frog in the pond (or eggs in a basket or eggs in the hole) is a traditional English breakfast that my mom used to make for me growing up. It is one of my favorites; I love sopping up the runny yolk with the extra bread cut-out.
Preheat skillet over medium heat and melt half of the butter in the pan.
Cut a square (or a circle, or a triangle) out of the center of the piece of bread and butter both sides and the cut-out with remaining butter.
Place bread in the pan and crack an egg right in the center of the hole. Toast the small cut out in the pan next to your creation. Fry egg and toast pieces for one minute, covered, then flip and cook until desired doneness. Pepper egg to taste.
Makes a great breakfast with a bowl of fruit.
