Perfect for brunch or afternoon tea. These are lightly sweet, fragrant, and delicious scones!
I’ve reconfigured and improved my original recipe based on your feedback!
Preheat your oven to 400F.
In a food processor, spin the sugar and the zest of 2 oranges together to combine.
In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt and orange-sugar from your food processor together with a fork. Mix well.
Separately, combine the milk, egg, and vanilla together. Set aside.
Cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients (or do as I do and cube the butter, then rub it into the dry ingredients by hand) until it is a crumbly consistency.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing with a fork until just combined.
Shape into balls, if desired… or simply drop the dough from a spoon onto a greased baking sheet.
Brush the top of each with a teaspoon or so of orange marmalade if you want, and then bake for roughly 15 minutes! Yum.

Vanilla and Orange = a FANTASTIC combination! This recipe is great, especially with the reconfigurations. Delicious!

I’m glad the integrity of the taste was still there! I’m going to work this recipe through again, and in the meantime I’ll recommend 1 and 2/3 cups flour for anyone wishing to try these … just until I get the measurements reconfigured.

They were still yummy and got eaten up! I’ll make them again, just add bunches of flour. I also did the drop method because it was too thin to ball up, so maybe it lacked some extra flour yours had from that?

Oh, dear! I certainly didn’t run into any problems with the fluffiness, though perhaps I will have to attempt this again to tweak the flour measurement. I did have very loose dough, but flouring up my hands and sprinkling a bit extra on the scones themselves solved the problem for me. I am bummed this didn’t work out for you. :/

These are very tasty, but WAY runny. My first batch was super flat. I added a lot of flour for my 2nd sheet and they were rounder, but still not as pretty as the picture.
