Saturday morning biscuits is what these are. My family just loves smothering these in local honey and homemade jam. According to them, buttermilk biscuits were only ever meant to be made sweet (even if only slightly).
Heat the oven to 425 degrees.
Mix all the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Take the butter and cut it into 1/4-inch slices. Make sure the butter is cold. Once it is sliced and in the flour, mix it in as thoroughly as possible. I use my hands for this recipe all the way until the very end. After the butter is mixed in, make a little dip into the center of the flour and pour in the buttermilk. Mix it in and make into medium-sized balls and place them on your cookie sheet. (There should be 10-12 balls.)
Cook for 15 minutes and serve with honey. Or jam … or just butter.
