These wonderful old-fashoned ginger snaps smell almost as good as they taste. They are a favorite in our house.

  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 3 Tablespoons Boiling Water
  • 1 cup Molasses
  • 2 whole Eggs

  • 1 Tablespoon Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper

It was my grandmothers recipe and I am often requested to make it for family and friends. My sister in law wont let me come visit her if I don’t have them in hand! Enjoy and let me know what you think.

Yummy!! I added 1/2 tsp of cloves just for a little more spice, but otherwise followed the recipe exactly. I cooked mine for 12 minutes, and they’re crispy around the edges, but soft in the center. Just how I like them! Will certainly make these again and again. Can’t wait for the holidays this year so I can make these for parties and get-togethers.

Your original recipe was way too sweet for my taste, but that’s personal. After adding some more ginger and a little more cinnamon and a tablespoon or 2 of extra flour (while making a half-batch) they turned out quite good. Not the best ones ever to me, but most definitely good!

It was the pepper that first intrigued me about this recipe. A unique “secret ingredient” – it makes them a little spicy! These were fantastic. I made them one night after a large dinner. My husband was particularly full from dinner and still managed to gorge himself on 12 of them! (He pronounced them to be the “best cookies” I’d ever made) Crispy on the edges and chewy in the centre. Delicious! Thanks for sharing the recipe!
