My great-grandmother Anna May Brown’s cookie recipe. Yum.
Preheat the oven to 350 F and grease a sheet pan.
In a large bowl or stand mixer, cream both sugars, butter, eggs, and vanilla together.
In a separate bowl combine flour, baking soda, salt, and spices together.
Slowly add the dry ingredients to the sugar/butter mixture, and mix until just combined. Add oats as well. If the cookie dough is a little dry then add a little water. (Most of the time this is not necessary.)
Make the cookies into small balls on the sheet pan. Bake for 10-12 minutes. Don’t over bake them! They are done when they are slightly darker on the outside of the cookie and puffy in the center. Cool for 5-10 minutes on the sheet pan, then transfer to a cooling rack. Or skip the cooling and eat them right then.
Makes about 24 cookies.
