Description

After some searching and not finding quite what I had wanted, I came up with this recipe. Even my 3-year-old loves it!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Dried Split Peas
  • ½ cups Barley
  • ¼ cups Small Onion, Minced
  • 1 whole Carrot, Diced
  • 5 cups Chicken Broth
  • 5 cups Water
  • 4 cloves Garlic, Minced
  • 2 leaves Bay Leaves
  • 2-½ teaspoons Dried Basil
  • ½ teaspoons Garlic Powder
  • 3 teaspoons Black Pepper
  • 2 teaspoons Kosher Salt

Preparation

1. Rinse split peas and pour into a slow cooker.
2. Add remaining ingredients and cook on low for 3-4 hours. You may need to check the water level and add some at the end to achieve a consistency to your liking.

3 teaspoons of pepper was WAY too much. Added a spoonful of cottage to each bowl to cool things down. The soup was delicious and so easy to throw together. Perfect, except for burning my tongue off with the pepper. :)

Fullfilling without filling your tummy. This soup, crusty bread and a salad make a perfect meal. Adding chicken couldn’t hurt.

This is great! This soup really hit the spot for my poor hubby who is feeling a little under the weather today. Thanks for sharing!
