Delicious brunch item, very rich. Must be made the night before, which is very handy for group occasions.
Can be served with butter, maple syrup and jam, but it doesn’t actually need anything.
- Spray 9×13 pan with cooking spray;
– Pour in the melted butter, and then add the brown sugar & 2 Tbsp of the maple syrup; Mix in pan until it can be spread evenly around the bottom of the pan;
– Divide loaf of bread into half; cut half of the loaf into small cubes [about 1″ square] and sprinkle evenly over the brown sugar-butter mixture;
– Cut cream cheese into cubes, and sprinkle evenly over the bread cubes;
– Top with remaining bread, also cut into cubes;
– Whisk eggs, half & half, and remaining 1 Tbsp of maple syrup together; pour egg mixture evenly over the bread;
– Covering the top with plastic wrap, press down gently to make sure all the bread has been coated with egg mixture;
– Cover tightly and refrigerate overnight;
– Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes, or until gently browned & well set.
– Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve;
***Prep time includes overnight in the refrigerator.
