I admit, I wrinkled my nose at the thought of prunes…but then I thought about why. I can’t remember having tried prunes, I only thought of the negative (yucky!) stereo-type attached to them. This is funny because I had some dried prunes in my freezer that had been given to me a while back.
I decided to try this recipe out. I did not follow it exactly, but pretty closely. I used 2% milk, peanut butter (instead of almond butter), ovaltine (rich chocolate flavor), and 5 dried, frozen plums (prunes). Although I had to blend it for a good couple of minutes to get the prunes into tiny pieces, this smoothie is FANTASTIC!! I will be making this again, no doubt! Perhaps next time, I will reconstitute the plums first so they can blend a bit easier.
P.S. – I’m glad the new “officially approved” name for prunes is now “dried plums”…it is much more welcoming!
