I skipped the wine, cream (subbing milk and butter), and gruyere so maybe that’s why this wasn’t to die for delicious. It was still good though I wished it tasted more of garlic. It just seemed like an amped up creamy onion soup to me.

Any recommendations for what would be a good substitute for the wine? Since I don’t know what the wine tastes like, I’m never sure which substitute would work best in certain recipes. Would more chicken broth do it, or is there something that would enhance the flavor better?

I added a chopped up potato this time around and it added a wonderful texture. I also used some fresh Rosemary bread from a local French bakery and the flavor of the fresh Rosemary made this soup stand out. Love it!

I made it last night, it was very very delicious. Even my garlic/milk hater friends loved it. I put milk instead of cream and it worked just fine.

This soup was absolutely divine! It tasted expensive…must have been the Gruyere which took me a while to find! Wasn’t at my local grocery store but I found it at Whole Foods! I will definitely make this again!
