Description

Brownie lovers will swoon over it and pie lovers will think you’ve gone crazy.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole Pie Crust
  • 3 ounces, weight Unsweetened Chocolate
  • ⅓ cups Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • 12 Tablespoons Butter
  • 1 cup White Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons Dark Brown Sugar
  • 2 whole Eggs
  • ½ Tablespoons Vanilla Extract
  • ½ cups Plus 1 Tablespoon All-purpose Flour

Preparation

1. Preheat oven to 350° F. You’ll need a tart pan with a removable bottom, but don’t grease it.
2. Roll out the pie crust and fit it into the tart pan.
3. Cut the butter into cubes and place in a microwavable bowl. Chop the unsweetened chocolate blocks into small pieces and add to the butter along with the semi-sweet chocolate chips.
4. Microwave the butter and chocolate for one minute and stir. Depending on your microwave, you’ll probably need to microwave for an additional two or three heating intervals of 30 seconds each, stirring in between until the mixture is smooth. The mixture should not get terribly hot because the stirring is really the key to making all the chocolate melt at a low temperature.
5. Add the white sugar and stir until blended. Beat the two eggs, add to the mixture and blend completely. Stir in the brown sugar and the vanilla. Add the flour and mix until blended.
6. Pour into the prepared pie shell and spread it evenly. Loosely wrap a square of aluminum foil around the bottom of the tart pan to keep any butter from leaking onto the oven floor. Bake in a 350° oven for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the brownie center comes out clean. Cool on a baking rack for approximately one hour before you remove the outside pan ring.

Thanks so much for posting. A trendy restaurant nearby serves this and I love it. I work with the lady who makes their pies and she told me the recipe. She neglected to tell me the directions and I could not get my pie to turn out. Melting the chocolate and butter must be the key. I baked mine in a Pillsbury frozen crust and it turned out fine. Next time, I will try semi-sweet squares and milk chocolate chips. I like my brownies just a little sweeter. Thanks so much, we enjoyed it!!!
