My grandmother, Granny, would make donuts for us using refrigerator biscuits. She would fry them up in her cast iron skillet and then dip them in sugar and cinnamon. I am feeling a little perky and decided to add a little twist to the recipe. So let’s throw a little nutmeg into the mix!
Take your biscuits and punch a hole in the middle. I use the top of a 2-liter soda bottle.
Fry doughnuts and doughnut holes, a few at a time, in deep, hot fat (365 degrees F) for about 2-1/2 minutes or until golden, turning once. Using a slotted spoon, remove doughnuts from the oil and drain on paper towels. Repeat with the remaining doughnuts and doughnut holes. Coat warm doughnuts in Spiced Sugar. Serve warm or at room temperature.
Spiced Sugar: in a small bowl, stir together the sugar, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg.
