Description

This recipe has been in my family for over 100 years. My great-great grandmother used to make these in a wood stove!

Super easy to make and not too sweet.

Ingredients

  • ½ pounds (2 Sticks) Real Butter, Softened
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons Cornstarch
  • 2-½ cups All-purpose Flour

Preparation

Preheat oven to 275F.

In large bowl, cream butter, sugar and cornstarch.

Mixing with your hands (or get your kids to do it, they’ll LOVE it), add flour a little at a time just until the dough no longer sticks to your fingers. You may not use all of the flour—this is okay.

Gather dough into a ball and roll out on a lightly floured surface to 1/2-inch thickness.

Use a 1 to 2-inch cookie cutter to cut out rounds.

Gather scraps, form into ball and roll out again. Cut out more cookies. Repeat until all dough is used.

Bake for approximately 30 minutes or until edges just begin to brown.

Cool on a cooling rack and store in an airtight container.

Help!! My dough is not coming together. Not sure what I did but it’s like a dry mess. Should I add some more butter? Followed recipe as directed.

I too, am going to try this! Sounds so simple to make, yet absolutely delicious! Might add some chopped pecans to it! Thanks for posting this recipe!

I like this recipe. I modified it slightly by adding a little bit of lemon juice, and instead of rolling the dough I made balls and then pressed them with the bottom of a glass.

These are excellent. Exactly what I was looking for – a simple and delicious shortbread recipe. The first time I made them I made them as written. The second time I added too much flour so I sprinkled in some lemon juice to get the dough back to the right consistency. That was a happy accident as they were very, very good with the addition of a little lemon flavor.

Fantastic crispness! I fought a little bit with the dough – added too much flour and added more melted butter (quicker to integrate into the dough). I eventually won though! They taste amazing!

Hey, wanna swap great-grannies? She’s a genius! I loved the texture and butteriness of the cookie. In fact, I just made them today, and they were a hit! Thanks to you and your great-grandma.
