A different spin on an old recipe.
Wash, sort and soak the beans overnight. Rinse them and put them in a large heavy duty pot. Cover with water and set to medium high and bring to a boil.
While waiting for them to boil, slice the onions and garlic. Add that to the pot. Once the beans come to a boil, turn the heat down to a medium-low setting and cover with a lid. Cook for a couple of hours.
Chop the bacon up and fry it in a pan. Add the bacon and a tablespoon or so of the grease to the pot. Add the chili powder, chicken bouillon, and pepper to the pot and continue cooking for another hour or two, or until the beans are nice and done. At the end, add a can of great northern beans to the mix and season with salt if needed.
