Description

Puts the blue in yo’ red/white/blue, y’all.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Fresh Blueberries
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons Ketchup
  • 2 Tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar
  • ½ cups Chicken Or Vegetable Stock
  • ¼ cups Bourbon
  • ¼ cups Brown Sugar
  • ½ teaspoons Cayenne Pepper, Plus More To Taste
  • 1 teaspoon Chili Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder

Preparation

Combine all ingredients in a small sauce pan, cover, and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and remove the lid; simmer for 20-30 minutes until slightly reduced, thickened, and blueberries have burst. Taste, and adjust seasoning to your preference.

I have a friend with a cherry tree who invited me to come share his bounty. Finding myself with a glorious abundance of fresh cherries, I tried this recipe using pitted/halved cherries instead of blueberries. It was pretty chunky after it thickened, so I gave it a whiz with my immersion blender and it was the perfect barbecue sauce consistency. We grilled a pork tenderloin, basting with the sauce. Outrageously good! I will be trying this with blueberries in the future. Thanks for sharing!
