This is the perfect use for that Christmas ham bone sitting in your freezer. Don’t be skeptical when you read the recipe, you will be amazed at how this turns into a thick, delicious, savory soup, sure to fill your tummy and warm your soul. Mmm, mmm, good! (Good thing we doubled it!)
Soak beans overnight in 6-8 cups hot water. Drain in the morning.
Place soaked beans, 6 fresh cups of water, chopped veggies, seasonings and ham bone in your slow cooker. (I did a big pot on the stove since I doubled it.) If you have additional ham that you’d like to add, now’s the time. You don’t have to add any extra meat, but my hubby is a meat guy, so I added a good cup of our ham leftovers.
Cook on low for 8 hours, or until you can’t take the suspense any longer! Remove bay leaf and ham bone. Taste and re-season as necessary. Serve soup with cornbread.

very good thank you no more pushing that ham bone out of the way in the frezzer. I did this in a crock pot and added bell peppers. Yummy thanks.
