Description

Need a fun treat for a party? Birthdays, holidays and sunny days … these Elephant Ears are easy and tasty.

Ingredients

  • 6 Tablespoons Shortening
  • 1-½ cup Milk
  • 2 Tablespoons Sugar
  • 2 packages (1/4 Oz. Packet) Yeast
  • 4 cups Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Vegetable Oil, For Frying
  • ¼ cups Cinnamon/Sugar Mixture For Topping

Preparation

In a pan over medium high heat, melt your shortening together with your milk and sugar.

Once melted, remove from heat and cool to 110 degrees F. Add the yeast and let bubble and rise for a few minutes.

In a mixing bowl combine the flour with salt and pour in the yeast/milk mixture.

Beat (with a dough hook) on medium until well combined. All the flour should be incorporated.

Generously flour a surface and knead the dough for up to 8 minutes until you have an elastic and smooth ball.

Place back in the bowl, cover and let rise for 45 minutes.

You can either stick this in the fridge after it’s risen or go right to frying. To fry, add the vegetable oil to a pan on the stove over high heat.

Roll out a fist-sized ball of dough on a floured surface. Lay in the oil and let it bubble and fry for about a minute.

Turn and fry the other side.

Drain on paper towels, immediately dust with cinnamon/sugar, then transfer to wax or parchment paper and serve!
