Description

This is a simple, yummy treat. You can tell because the recipe card is so worn that you can hardly read it anymore! It’s a unique alternative to chocolate chip cookies, with an interesting texture and just a hint of coffee flavoring—not strong enough to turn off non-coffee people like me. :)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Soft Butter Or Margarine
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Almond Extract
  • 1 Tablespoon Instant Coffee (Up To 2 Tablespoons For More Flavor)
  • ½ teaspoons Baking Powder
  • ¼ teaspoons Salt
  • 2-½ cups Flour (approximately)
  • 1 cup Chocolate Chips (Up To 2 Cups!)

Preparation

Cream together the butter and brown sugar.

Blend in the almond extract, instant coffee, baking powder and salt.

Add enough flour to make a stiff dough.

Press into a well-greased 9×13 pan (or a jellyroll pan if you’re doubling it) and sprinkle chocolate chips on top.

Bake at 350 F for 20 to 25 minutes.

Enjoy!

Just made these…my two sons, husband and me – LOVED THEM!! I omitted the coffee and used vanilla extract instead of almond. But really good!!

I’ve made these several times and after meaning to write a review each time, I finally am. These are amazing as is!! It’s a very versatile recipe if you’d like to switch it up, but I have yet to do that as we love them so much!

I loved this recipe. At first the flavor combination seemed a little odd, but the almond extract and coffee worked well together.

Not sure I’d make again…they were good, but there’s soo many good bars out there and brownie recipes too.

For sure don’t make if you don’t like coffee. They were good, but kinda basic.

I agree with others who noted not much taste. Maybe it’s too much flour & no egg. I would make a thick paste of the instant coffee before adding to avoid the grains showing up in a piece. May try again; may not…

These are amazing! I put 1 cup of chocolate chips on top and they are perfect that way. This is my favorite “go-to” dessert.

These were wonderful! I made the recipe as is, but put the bars in a smaller (7×11″?) pan. For good measure and at the pressuring of my husband, I threw some Heath Bar bits on top in the last 5 minutes of baking. Oh, my! We’ll make this again!

Super easy to make, but not sure if they’re really my cup of tea. I’ll probably make them again, but with vanilla extract.
