Description

Chocolate and Coca Cola make a marriage in heaven for Southern Coca Cola Cake. But the temptation has NOT been removed!

Ingredients

  • FOR THE CAKE:
  • 2 cups Sugar
  • 2 cups Plain White Flour
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • 1 cup Coca Cola
  • 1 stick Butter - No Substitutions
  • ½ cups Vegetable Oil
  • ½ cups Cocoa
  • 2 whole Eggs, Beaten
  • ½ cups Buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • _____
  • FOR FROSTING:
  • 1 stick Butter
  • ½ cups Cocoa
  • 6 Tablespoons Whole Milk Or Cream
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1 pound Powdered Sugar
  • 1 cup Pecans Or Walnuts (optional)

Preparation

In large bowl mix sugar, flour, and salt. Set aside.

In medium sauce pan add the cup of Cola, stick of butter, vegetable oil, and 1/2 cup cocoa. Bring liquid mixture to a rolling boil and mix well. Turn off heat then add the flour mixture. Mix well, then add the beaten eggs, buttermilk, baking soda, and vanilla. Pour batter into a greased and floured sheet cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in cake comes out clean.

Frosting:
In a saucepan add the other stick of butter, 1/2 cup cocoa, and milk or cream. Heat mixture until butter melts. Mix well and add the vanilla, powdered sugar, and the nuts. Pour frosting over cake while cake is still warm.

Serve with ice cream!

Have you ever made this as a round layer cake? I was wondering if the frosting would work to cover it. I’m planning on making this for Easter. Thanks!

I cut this recipe in half for my hubby and I and let me tell you, I wished I had made the whole thing because we scarfed every bit of it down! It was *delicious*! The cake was so moist and rich and don’t even get me started on the frosting! I could eat that by itself! LOL Thanks for sharing! Its a definate must for my next snack attack!

I’ve made this recipe three times now! How addicting. I tried it as two round layers and it was a little too dense. Now, I stick with the sheet pan and it is perfect every time!
