Description

Moist, delicious Red Velvet Cake.

Ingredients

  • 1-½ cup Sugar
  • ½ cups Shortening
  • 2 cups Flour
  • 2 Tablespoons Cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 ounce, fluid Water
  • 1 ounce, fluid Red Food Coloring
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • 2 whole Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1 Tablespoon Vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Soda

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Premix water, food coloring and buttermilk. Set aside. Combine sugar, shortening, flour, cocoa and salt. Add milk mixture. Beat until well blended. Add eggs one at a time, beating mixture in between. Add vanilla. Beat for 1 minute.
Mix vinegar and baking soda together. Add to the batter and mix BY HAND (do not beat anymore).

Bake in two 9-inch round pans (that have been greased and floured) for 30 minutes.

Simply delicious recipe! I made 16 cupcakes out of this recipe and reduced the baking time between 20-24 minutes (depending on your oven). Moist, delicious, and light. A real hit!
