Description

You won’t believe how delightful this is. Such a nice change of pace from the typical (albeit delicious) apple dessert. And you can add some minced fresh ginger to the pears if you want to step the flavors up a notch.

Ingredients

  • FILLING INGREDIENTS:
  • 4 whole (to 5) Large Pears (Bosc Work Well)
  • ⅔ cups Sugar
  • ¼ teaspoons Salt
  • _____
  • Topping Ingredients
  • 1-½ cup All-purpose Flour
  • ⅓ cups Sugar
  • ⅓ cups Firmly Packed Brown Sugar
  • ½ teaspoons Cinnamon
  • ½ cups Pecans, Very Finely Chopped
  • 1 stick Butter, Melted

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Peel, core, and dice pears. Place into a bowl and stir together with 2/3 cup sugar and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Set aside.

In a separate bowl, combine flour, sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and pecans. Stir together. Drizzle melted butter gradually, stirring with a fork as you go until all combined.

Pour pears into a baking dish; top with crumb topping.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Place pan on top rack of oven for an additional 10 minutes, or until topping is golden brown.

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

Made this today because I had a box of pears to play with – excellent recipe! My husband thinks I’m the best!

Would this be any good with canned pears? Or would I have to use fresh for this to be any good?

This was sooo good!!!
I had some pears I needed to use up when I stumbled over this recipe… and thought it was perfect to give it a try.
And I was thrilled!!! The topping is so dang good I really had to resist not to eat it raw!

SO dang good! I actually made it with peaches, but it was amazing. The topping is scrumptious.

Way way way (did I say WAY?) too sweet. The sugar so overwhelms the fruit there is no taste except sweet. Compare to other fruit crisps and you’ll see this is bizarrely over sweetened.

Really great recipe! It’s so refreshing with pears instead of the usual apple crisp. Used Adele’s Vanilla Bean ice cream (organic).

My mother in law thought I was crazy to make this, but she loved it and requests it every year now.
