Description

Delicious brownies with swirls of Nutella and chocolate chips.

Ingredients

  • ½ cups Unsalted Butter
  • 1-¼ cup 60% Bittersweet Chocolate Chips, Plus ½ Cup Reserved
  • ¾ cups Nutella, Plus 1/3 Cup Reserved
  • ¾ cups Packed Light Brown Sugar
  • ½ Tablespoons Vanilla Extract
  • 2 whole Large Eggs
  • ¾ cups All-purpose Flour
  • 1 Tablespoon Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • ¼ teaspoons Salt
  • ¼ teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Water

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 9-inch square baking pan with parchment paper for easy removal. Cover parchment paper with cooking spray.

In a heatproof mixing bowl, melt butter and 1¼ cups chocolate chips in the microwave until smooth. Do this in 15-second intervals, stirring in between to ensure that you do not scorch the chocolate. Once the mixture is melted, stir in the ¾ cup Nutella. Cool the chocolate mixture until it’s at room temperature. Then stir in the brown sugar and vanilla. Add eggs 1 at a time, mixing well after each addition, until mixture is glossy and smooth.

Whisk together the dry ingredients (flour, cocoa, salt and baking powder) in another bowl and then add it into the chocolate mixture. Stir in the remaining ½ cup of chocolate chips.

Spread batter evenly into the prepared pan.

Mix remaining Nutella with 1 teaspoon water in a heatproof bowl. Microwave for 15 seconds to thoroughly incorporate both ingredients, continuing to heat for additional 15 seconds until it’s smooth.

Drizzle Nutella mixture on top of the brownie batter. Using the tip of a paring knife, create swirls of the Nutella. Do not over mix, as you want to keep the swirls visible.

Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out mostly clean. Cool in pan for at least 10 minutes and cut into 3 inch squares.

I thought these brownies were delicious, however, I had to cook them for double the amount of time stated, and the edges burned before the inside was even set. Next time I will cook them with aluminum foil rather than parchment around them, and plan on cooking them longer. Loved the flavor though, and I’m excited to try this recipe again with some changes.
