Description

I found this recipe a while back and has now become my go-to yellow cake recipe. Because oil is used instead of butter, the recipe yields an extremely moist, not too sweet yellow cake perfect for any occasion! It can be easily used as a base for other flavors of cake as well.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Sugar
  • 1 cup Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 4 whole Eggs
  • 2-½ cups All-purpose Flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • ¾ cups Milk
  • 4 Tablespoons Sour Cream

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Beat sugar, oil, and vanilla extract.
Beat in eggs one at a time.
Whisk flour, baking powder and salt.
Add to the sugar mixture, alternating between flour mixture and milk/sour cream. Mix until combined.
Transfer to the oven and bake for 35 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.

Frost with ‘The Best Frosting I’ve Ever Had.”

I’m assuming this batter can be used for cupcakes? I’ve been looking for a good recipe and this looks yummy =)

The batter indeed fills 2 8inch round pans and you should always grease and flour your cake pans :)

It doesn’t state what size pan to bake this in. 8″ round? 2 8″ rounds? And, I’m assuming you are to grease and flour your cake pan?
Thanks!

Oh, thank goodness – a yellow cake Not out of a box!!

My BF’s favorite cake is a yellow cake. And since his birthday is a week away I had to scramble to find one I can make from scratch, and here it is!

I can’t wait to whip it up. Thank you so much.

Nothing out of the world about this cake, but great for a base yellow layer. Nice and moist, not overly sweet, though a bit plain. Frosted with chocolate frosting, and was quite yummy!! Thank you for the recipe, will use again!

I grew up simply adoring yellow cake from a box, but this is a fanstastic recipe! I took the advice from above and added about 1/2 tsp butter extract and they turned out great! I think I’m done buying those boxes… : )

This is a fantastic yellow cake recipe. It stayed so wonderfully moist! And mine turned out a bit denser than a cake-from-a-box recipe – but I like it better this way!!
I’d say next time, I’m going to add about a half teaspoon of imitation butter flavoring, just to give it a little boost, but it is already wonderful just as it is!!
Thanks so much, my boyfriend can’t wait for me to make this again.
