Description

This is a rich and moist chocolate cake with a delicious cream cheese frosting.

Ingredients

  • FOR THE CAKE:
  • 1 cup Guinness Beer
  • 10 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter
  • ½ cups Unsweetened Cocoa
  • 2 cups White Sugar
  • 2 whole Eggs
  • ½ cups Plain Yogurt
  • 1 Tablespoon Vanilla Extract
  • 2 cups All-purpose Flour
  • 2-½ teaspoons Baking Soda
  • ½ cups Chocolate Chips
  • FOR THE FROSTING:
  • 8 ounces, weight Cream Cheese, At Room Temperature
  • 2 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter, At Room Temperature
  • 1-¼ cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • ⅔ cups Heavy Whipping Cream, Whipped

Preparation

For the cake:

1. In a large pot, over medium heat, melt the butter in the beer. When it is melted, remove from heat and let cool for a couple of minutes.
2. Add in the sugar and sift the cocoa directly into the pot. Stir until combined.
3. In a small bowl, mix together the eggs, yogurt and vanilla extract. Dump this into the beer pot and stir until combined.
4. Add the flour and baking soda directly into the pot and whisk until combined.
5. Mix in the chocolate chips.
6. Preheat the oven to 350˚.
7. Butter and flour a round springform pan. Pour in the batter. Place the pan in the preheated oven for about 40 minutes. Let the cake cool before you remove it from the spring form pan.

For the frosting:

1. Combine the cream cheese, butter, and vanilla in a bowl until well blended.
2. Add the powdered sugar and combine.
3. Fold in the whipped cream.
4. Gob the frosting on top of the cake. It should look like beer head, so it does not need to be perfect.
