These bars are delicious! I sprinkled mini chocolate chips and coconut on top for extra flavour! Watch that your oven isn’t too hot, or the bars will become too hard.

These were really delicious. I’d definitely recommend using only 1 cup of chocolate chips (as the recipe suggests.) You really want that cookie to shine through.
The almond extract is very interesting! It definitely comes through in the flavor of the cookie. I thought it was delicious, but if you aren’t a fan of almond flavor, I think you could easily substitute vanilla extract.
You could also sprinkle finely chopped pecans on top, before you sprinkle on the chocolate chips.

I’ve made these at least 3 times. I love them, and they have received rave review from my friends and family.
I used vanilla extract instead of almond and only used 1 cup of chocolate chips (semi-sweet).
These are best warm, and they reheat in the microwave really well.
Seeing the pictures from Ree’s blog post really helped, too.

I have made these several times and loved them.
They are a little different and delicious!

These are excellent quick desserts! I made mine with vanilla extract (I don’t care for almond extract) and pressed larger ghiradelli dark chocolate chips on top.
By the way, Sheryl, I used instant coffee powder – not prepared for my cookies and they turned out delicious.

This was a delicious treat! Easy to make and oh so yummy with a cup of coffee. I used vanilla extract and they were just perfect.

These were super easy to make and delicious! I made a batch for our food table at church, and the ones that made it there went quickly. The coffee flavor was nice and subtle… My dad hates coffee and I had to tell him what it was
I will definitely make these again.

I just brought these down to my husband and he said, “OH my gosh, those look good.” They are delish. I used 1 1/2 cups of flour because the dough looked stiff, but I think I’ll use more next time. Thanks for posting!

Roontoo, it is supposed to be baking powder. Perhaps your oven runs on the hot side? I did notice a comment on the original recipe: “Do not overbake.” If you try these again (which I highly recommend!) maybe start them at 15 minutes and work your way up from there. If they still give you trouble, let me know and I’ll consult the Expert – my Mom. =) I really hope they work for you! Thanks for trying them out!

Just made these tonight. Sooooo tasty! Very good with vanilla ice cream, and a little Kahlua drizzled on top. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

Made these last night and they were a big hit. Used Folger’s instant coffee and put in only 1 tbsp, but wish I had put in 1.5 tbsp or even more. I’m not a coffee fan, but really liked the coffee flavor in the dough, but it definitely mellowed out with the cooking and could use more of a kick.
I also used 3/4 c. mini semi-sweet chocolate morsels and thought that it was the perfect amount of chocolate the accompany the bars.
I’ll definitely be making these again, but won’t cook them for so long; 20 minutes had them crisp up almost too much. And, I will make sure to cut them before they completely cool, because they got quite stiff/hard.

Delicious! Made these yesterday with vanilla. The family loved them. I like that it’s easy and fast and I usually have all those things on hand. Thanks!

fantastic. i think i’ll add more almond extract next time… while i’m doubling the recipe. 30 minutes after i pulled this out of the oven, it was all gone.

Hmm, judging from the rave reviews, something must have gone horribly wrong in my effort because I did not like these at all. I followed the recipe and Ree’s advice with regard to limiting it to 1 c. of chocolate chips (sound advice, as I found that 1 c. was more than enough to cover the entire surface). But the end result was a largely tasteless bar (the raw dough tasted great!) with a mealy texture. After the first bite, I turned to my husband and barely articulated, “I need a glass of milk.” He, too, felt that the bar itself was merely a delivery mechanism for the chocolate chips.
I will gladly try the recipe again in the hope that this first unsuccessful attempt was just a fluke.

Do you think these can be frozen? I’d like to make these for the meal ministry at church for those going through births, deaths or hardships.
I find that when I freeze the meals, I like to add a dessert that can be frozen. Just would like to make sure if I freeze them they won’t melt and turn to moosh.Haha
Can’t WAIT to try them tonight!

I added more coffee and more almond extract (go easy on the extract because it will give a bold taste if you have way too much) Put slightly more but once you add extra you can’t take it back. I made a double batch just now.
Also, do you have lucid or old flour? that could make a difference as could switching from regular to whole wheat pastry flour.

I had the same problem as dancingfoodie with the batch i just made today. followed the recipe, but the bars are super dry….like you cannot even swallow a bite without a sip of liquid. The dough was excellent though…so I wonder what we did wrong? Undercook? I don’t know….
