I made this for my hubby’s birthday back in April – it was yummy and everyone loved it!

I really liked the cake part, and the whole recipe couldn’t be easier. The frosting was very pretty but more of a ganache. I really would prefer the flavor of a buttercream, so that’s why it gets a 4 instead of a 5.

This recipe is easy and tastes so good! The cake is very moist and the ganache frosting is very fudgy.

Wow! This cake got eaten all in one day by my family! The icing was amazing and when chilled… just out of this world! I will definitely be making it again! It’s very rich and moist and delicious!

This looks FANTASTIC. If I can get my act together, I will be trying it this weekend – maybe … in honor of my horse’s birthday? lol

Let me know how you all like it! And you certainly don’t need to wait for a birthday to make it

Do you trim your layers after they are cooled off? Sometimes, after I take them out, they are rounded or the edges don’t align… Just curious, because it’s so perfect. I can’t wait to try it!!!

I saw this and printed it right away – my daughter’s birthday is a week from tomorrow and I am going to try and talk her into this cake instead of the “Themed” Birthday cakes I have made her for the last 8 years.

utmommy: Yes, I do trim the rounded tops off before frosting them. It makes for a nice little snack before the cake is done
catherinej: Sadly I do not have a recipe. Maybe there is one here on Tasty Kitchen?
Also, another tip is to eat the cake cold. It gets so dense and chewy when it has been chilled!
