Description

This is my favorite holiday food in the world. People literally fight over it and it is always a huge hit. It is sweet and crunchy and literally addicting. You will not be disappointed by this recipe. Set it out in bowls at a party or just for your family and I promise everyone will love it!

Ingredients

  • 1 stick Butter
  • 1 cup Light Brown Sugar
  • ½ cups White Corn Syrup
  • ½ teaspoons Baking Soda
  • 1 Tablespoon Vanilla
  • 2 boxes (12 Oz. Box) Corn Chex Cereal (I Use Crispix)
  • 4 cups Mixed Nuts

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. If your oven tends to be hotter than most, preheat to 325 degrees.

Mix nuts and Crispix together on a baking sheet and set aside.

In a medium-sized sauce pan, over medium-high heat, melt butter. Stir in brown sugar and syrup, then let boil for 5 minutes. Don’t cook it too long or it will caramelize and won’t work! Remove from heat and stir in baking soda and vanilla (it should double in size and turn a lighter color).

Pour the syrup over the cereal mix and gently stir, making sure everything is well coated. Bake for 1 hour, stirring every 20 minutes.

Spread out onto waxed paper to cool until it hardens. Once cool, break apart and serve.

This stuff is so good. Our family likes to throw in a cup or two of M&Ms to accentuate the nuts and add that little taste of chocolate. Yumm!
