Description

Healthy and delicious, you can eat more and don’t have to feel bad about it.

Ingredients

  • ⅓ cups Butter
  • 2 whole Eggs, Separated
  • 2 cups Whole Wheat Flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • 1-½ cup Buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 2 Tablespoons Powdered Sugar

Preparation

Melt butter in the microwave and set aside to cool.

Separate the egg yolks from the whites and beat the egg whites to soft peaks.

Whisk together the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt) in a large bowl and preheat your waffle iron.

Whisk the egg yolks together with the buttermilk, vanilla and sugar.

Now add the dry ingredients into the wet. This way you will not have flour sticking to the bottom of the bowl.

As soon as the waffle iron is ready, slowly fold in the egg whites. Ladle into the waffle iron and cook until golden brown and delicious.

Makes 10 square waffles.

Is the butter supposed to be included with the “wet ingredients”? I found the butter later in my microwave and wasn’t sure if that was to be poured on top or put in the batter. Regardless, they were delish!

Thank you for the recipe. I started making the batter and found out I had no baking powder so I had to stop half way through and wait for my hubby to bring some home. Then when I made the waffles they were super yummy but they stuck a little to the iron… I wondered about that… but they got great reviews from the family regardless of looks. Then when I was cleaning up I found the 1/3C coconut oil I planned to sub for the butter! Then it made since… sticking waffles… adding extra milk LOL. I want to try the real recipe but may just stick with these… lower fat and super yummy. Thanks for a great dinner :)

A good, solid waffle recipe. I also added honey instead of sugar, added 1/4 tsp cinnamon, and some chocolate chips. Also some wheat germ! I used 1 C whole wheat flour and1 C regular flour. with my waffle iron it only made 3… it must be a big waffle iron I guess!

These were good. I added some wheat germ and replaced the sugar with honey. They were a little dense and stuck to the iron for some reason.

These are the first waffles I’ve ever made. I can’t believe how good they are! I had to use regular granulated sugar instead of powdered because I was out, but it seemed fine to me. This is going in my recipe box for sure. Thanks

Such delicious waffles! I added cinnamon and honey instead of the sugar, but followed the rest of the recipe. Thanks! This one’s a keeper!!
