Ingredients

  • 2 cups Gold Medal All-purpose Flour
  • 1 Tablespoon Plus 1/2 C Packed Brown Sugar, Divided
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • ⅛ teaspoons Salt
  • ½ teaspoons Baking Soda
  • 7 Tablespoons Cold Butter
  • ¾ cups Milk
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter, Melted
  • 1 cup Chopped Walnuts
  • 1 Tablespoon Ground Cinnamon
  • FOR FILLING:
  • 1 cup Packed Brown Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons Cornstarch Or Arrowroot Starch
  • 1 teaspoon Grated Lemon Peel
  • 1 cup Water
  • 9 cups Sliced Peeled Peaches

Preparation

Combine flour, 1 T brown sugar, baking powder, salt and baking soda, cut in butter until mixture resembles crumbs.

Stir in milk just until blended. Transfer to floured surface and knead 10 – 12 times.

Pat into 12″ square. Brush with melted butter.

Combine walnuts, cinnamon and remaining brown sugar; sprinkle over dough to within 1/2″ of edge.

Roll up jelly roll style. Seal dough, set aside.

FILLING

In a larger saucepan, combine brown sugar, cornstarch or arrowroot starch and lemon peel; stir in water until blended.

Add peaches. Bring to a boil. Cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thick and bubbly.

Transfer to a greased 13″ x 9″ baking dish.

Cut biscuit dough into 12 1-inch slices; arrange biscuits over filling.

Bake uncovered at 375 degrees for 30 minutes or until golden brown. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
