Description

Granola made of traditional oats and also some puffed wheat for a texture twist. The dried cherries complete this breakfast experience.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Old Fashioned Oats
  • 3 cups Puffed Wheat Cereal
  • 3 Tablespoons Flax Seed
  • ¼ cups Wheat Germ
  • 1 cup Dried Cherries
  • ½ cups Unsweetened Applesauce
  • ¼ cups Raw Sunflower Seeds
  • ½ cups Unsweetened Coconut Flakes
  • ½ cups Honey Or Agave Nectar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350ºF.

Thoroughly mix all ingredients in a large bowl, ensuring that the honey and applesauce are evenly distributed throughout.

Spread mixture on a baking sheet. Bake for 40 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes (watch the granola closely during the last 10 minutes to make sure it does not burn). The granola should be an even light brown, and the oats should be more crunchy than soft by the end. Enjoy with milk or yogurt or by itself!

Note about the puffed wheat cereal: If you mix in the cereal at the beginning and bake it with the rest of the granola for the entire 40 minutes, the puffed pieces of wheat will shrink down to their original wheat berry size and become nice and crunchy. If you would rather the cereal still be puffed when you eat it, add it during the last 10 minutes of baking. You may need to cut down on the amount of honey and applesauce used for the rest of the granola if you do not add the cereal until the end.
